BENMORE BOTANIC GARDENS (FULL DAY): Inveraray is the ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll, who originally founded the town in 1745. It is home to Inveraray Castle, a unique piece of architecture, Dukes Bell Tower and Inveraray jail, an award-winning 19th century prison. We also visit Benmore Botanic Gardens; these gardens feature a world-famous collection of plants from the Orient and the Himalaya to North and South America.

(FULL DAY): Oban, the 'Seafood Capital of Scotland' is a wonderful place to spend the day. For stunning views head to 'McCraig's Tower', this colosseum lookalike stands proudly above Oban and provides views over the town.

(FULL DAY): Following an early start, we set sail to the Isle of Mull from where we catch a foot passenger ferry over to the unique island of Iona (9:55am departure). Only 3 miles long and 1 mile wide, Iona is steeped in magnificent Scottish history which you can explore in Iona Abbey. The small graveyard next to the abbey is also thought to be the final resting place of 48 Medieval kings of Norway, Ireland, and Scotland, including the 11th century king Macbeth! Later we return to Mull and head to Tobermory, the capital of the island. Tobermory was built as a fishing port in the late 18th century and is now a picture-postcard of a place with brightly painted buildings along the main street towards the pier surrounded by high woodland-fringed hills. Late afternoon we make the return sailing to Oban for a late dinner this evening back at the hotel.

The Great Western Hotel ***, Oban

In a prime location, right in the centre of the curving esplanade, just a pleasant walk from the shops and harbour, stands Oban's Great Western; a hotel proud of offering space and comfort, as well as magnificent views of the bay (remember to look out for those memorable sunsets!). Ideal for a relaxing holiday, the activity on the bay can simply be watched from the welcoming lounge and cocktail bar, while it's also an ideal touring centre. With Glencoe, serene lochs and the Western Isles on the doorstep, there's a myriad of sightseeing opportunities.
