Day 2
We continue our journey with a visit to Heidelberg. Nestled between the Neckar River and the foothills of the Odenwald Forest, this city is considered one of Germany's most beautiful; Heidelberg is home to a historic old town and a fifteenth-century castle that offers astounding views of the surrounding area. To really get you in the seasonal spirit today, why not visit the famous Käthe Wohlfahrt Christmas shop while in town? We later continue to our hotel in Zell am Harmersbach found in the heart of the charming Black Forest.
B, DDay 3
Today's excursion takes us on a scenic drive through the beautiful Black Forest to festive Freiburg. Known as 'the capital of the Black Forest', this medieval city is dominated by a Gothic minister and overlooked by castle ruins. At this time of year, the city is particularly magical as the festive spirit blends seamlessly with a rich history of Christmas traditions in the whimsical world of the Freiburg Christmas market.
B, DChristmas Eve
This morning, we travel to Strasbourg, one of Europe's most beautiful cities and France's Christmas capital. Here, you'll find a unique mix of Franco-German culture, canals, and Gothic architecture. The city's towering cathedral is where you'll discover the oldest Christmas market in France, where the festive aroma of mulled wine and German bratwurst fills the air. Christmas Eve is the main day of celebration in Germany, so tonight, we'll embrace the local Christmas traditions with a five-course dinner including authentic Black Forest gateaux, live musical entertainment, and a visit from St Nikolaus bearing a gift for all!
B, DChristmas Day
Happy Christmas, or Frohe Weihnachten, as the locals say! After breakfast, why not begin your day with a refreshing walk around the little town of Zell am Harmersbach, nestled beneath the Brandenkopf, the highest peak in the central Black Forest? Having had our main celebratory meal last night, Christmas lunch is a relatively low-key affair and will be different than you are used to back home. After some time to unwind in your winter wonderland surroundings, we enjoy a light-hearted prize bingo session and a festive quiz before dinner this evening.
B, L, DBoxing Day
Our Boxing Day starts with a scenic drive through the Black Forest, perfect for getting some fresh air. This expanse of mountains, forests, and quaint villages is long associated with the Brothers Grimm and is even more enchanting during the festive season. We visit Triberg, the birthplace of the much-loved Black Forest gateau, best known for the highest waterfalls in Germany and its world-famous wooden cuckoo clocks, including the world's largest. We continue to the spa town of Titisee-Neustadt; found on the shores of Lake Titisee in the 'High' Black Forest, you'll find one of Germany's most beautiful lakes and a true winter wonderland at this time of year.
B, DDay 7
After breakfast, we bid our German hosts farewell, travel through the world's most spectacular forest roads and head to the pretty spa town of Baden-Baden. Built on thermal springs, Baden-Baden is a magical town has been a popular spa retreat for centuries. From here, we continue to our overnight hotel.
