Day 1
We depart and travel to Dover for our Channel crossing to France. We then continue to our conveniently located overnight hotel near Metz.
Day 2
Our journey continues through the heart of France to Strasbourg, the cultural capital of Alsace. This attractive city blends tradition and modernity, with historic monuments standing alongside contemporary architecture. Its beautifully preserved old town is enclosed by the River Ill, making it easy to explore the cobbled streets, timber-framed houses and picturesque canals on foot. After free time to look around, we board our floating cruise ship. Once settled into your cabin, you will be introduced to the crew at a welcome cocktail event, followed by dinner as we cast off and sail through the night.
B, DDay 3
We arrive in Frankfurt, which straddles the Main River and is often nicknamed 'Mainhattan', thanks to its impressive skyline. A guided tour introduces the city's highlights, from the medieval quarter and main square to the restored old town, which was heavily damaged during the Second World War. Back on board, enjoy dinner and an evening of entertainment as our ship sails through the night.
B, L, DDay 4
Relax onboard this morning as we cruise along the scenic Moselle before arriving in the delightful town of Cochem. Explore the lively Old Quarter, where timber-framed houses overlook Martin's Fountain and the bay-windowed Baroque Town Hall. We also include a guided tour of Cochem's 1,000-year-old imperial castle, perched high above the river and one of the town's most recognisable landmarks.
B, L, DDay 5
Enjoy another morning cruising along the Moselle before we arrive in Koblenz during the afternoon. Founded more than 2,000 years ago, this traditional German city is best explored in the company of your hostess. Discover cobbled streets, flower-adorned timber-framed houses, the ancient market square and medieval churches that evoke the fairy-tale Germany of old.
B, L, DDay 6
This morning, we sail to bustling Rüdesheim, known for its historic half-timbered houses and the famous Drosselgasse in the heart of the old town. If you are feeling adventurous, you may like to take the cable car over the vineyards to the imposing Niederwald Monument for magnificent bird's-eye views of the Rhine. We also include an excursion aboard a small train, with a stop at a wine-tasting cellar, followed by a visit to the Museum of Mechanical Musical Instruments. Here, more than 400 self-playing instruments offer a fascinating journey through the dance halls and living rooms of the past.
B, L, DDay 7
We sail towards Mannheim, a 'chessboard' city where the streets between the Neckar River and the palace are laid out in a strict grid pattern. The city has a rich history of innovation and a vibrant cultural scene. From here, we include an excursion to nearby Heidelberg, regarded as one of Germany's most beautiful cities, where church spires rise above the rooftops. We visit the old city and castle, first mentioned in 1225 and later developed into one of the grand castles of the Renaissance. From its lofty position, the castle offers breathtaking views of the River Neckar and the surrounding hills. This evening, enjoy our final night onboard with a gala dinner and evening entertainment.
B, L, DDay 8
Your unforgettable river cruise comes to an end this morning, but not before a final generous breakfast on board. We then set off for a lunchtime visit to Reims, a city celebrated for its history, heritage, culture, gastronomy and, of course, Champagne. Reims Cathedral, the coronation site of French monarchs for centuries, is among the city's highlights. After an afternoon at leisure and time to choose your evening dinner venue, we check in to our nearby overnight hotel in the mid-evening.
B, DDay 9
This morning we travel back to the Channel port for the return ferry crossing to Dover and continue home.
BB=Breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner
