Day 1
After early pick ups we head south to Dover for our channel crossing to France and onwards to the Rhine Valley. We arrive at our family run hotel in time for a late evening dinner.
Day 2
Today enjoy a day at leisure in the charming resort of Kamp Bornhofen, well known throughout Germany for its famous pilgrimage church and monastery dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The town also offers traditional Rhenish wine taverns and restaurants in a romantic setting. You may like to take the opportunity to board one of the scenic river cruise boats which glide along the Rhine past fabulous sights and beautiful landscapes along the shores of the river (not included), perhaps stopping off to have a look around neighbouring Boppard, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a splendid Rhine promenade.
Day 3
Today we visit Wiesbaden, one of Europe's oldest spa towns tucked in a lovely valley between the Rhine River and the Taunus Mountains.
Day 4
A full day excursion takes us to the traditional German town of Cochem. Located in one of the most romantic parts of the Moselle Valley and situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there are few towns in Germany that can match the sheer charm and beauty of Cochem.
Day 5
7 DAY DEPARTURES: After a leisurely breakfast we travel to St Goar, a small quaint town with a lovely atmosphere and medieval heart, situated near the famous Loreley of German legend, before we return to the hotel for an early dinner. This evening we head to RUDESHEIM IN JULY or KOBLENZ IN AUGUST, for the wonderful Rhine in Flames spectacular, where a procession of ships decorated with coloured lights provide a magnficent sight as they majestically glide along the river in the darkness and a grand musically synchronised firework display magically illuminates the surrounding mountains and night sky. Late return to the hotel.
Day 6
A full day excursion to Cologne, with its historic old town and many shops, cafes and restaurants. Don't miss a visit to the world famous twin-steepled gothic cathedral which dominates the skyline, enjoy a stroll along the riverside promenade, or for shopping, visit the pedestrianised Schildergasse.
Day 7
We retrace our footsteps back home.
Our hotel in Kamp-Bornhofen is a 3-minute walk from the River Rhine and offers a spa with sauna, hot tub and solarium, as well as a traditional restaurant with garden terrace and complimentary Wi-Fi. We have been working with the Wagner family now for many years, and each stay guarantees a wonderful experience, with generous hospitality and a home away from home experience.
