Discover Cumbria and the timeless landscape of the Lake District, England's largest National Park and now a World Heritage Site. This region of incredible natural beauty, home to shimmering lakes and luscious mountains, has inspired poets and painters for centuries with its radiant beauty. On this break, we explore the northern and southern lakes with visits to Windermere, Lake Coniston, and Ullswater, as well as take some free time to explore Kendal.

Day 1

We travel north with a stop in Skipton, a rich market town boasting a castle and the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales. This afternoon, we continue to our hotel in Kendal.

Day 2

Enjoy a full day exploring the southern lakes - including visits to Windermere and some of the most picturesque villages in England - Coniston and the delightful Hawkshead. We also include a unique journey on a restored Victorian steam-powered yacht on Coniston Water, a journey now operated by the National Trust. Experience the thrill of sailing on a historic vessel, taking in the stunning views of the lake and its surroundings.

Day 3

With a free day, delve into the intriguing history of Kendal. This market town is a treasure trove of historical character, with its web of interweaving alleyways and cobbled yards. Discover farm shops, weekly markets, local bakeries, and brewers, all situated on the banks of the River Kent.

Day 4

Today, we explore the northern lakes from the comfort of our coach; sit back and relax as we pass rugged mountains, lakes and villages, past the tranquil waters of Ullswater to Patterdale and over the magnificent Kirkstone Pass.

Day 5

We return home today, driving through the scenic sights of the Peak District enroute.

The County Hotel 3*, Kendal

 

 

Set in a former coaching inn, the County Hotel is in the centre of Kendal and offers traditional meals and cooked breakfasts. The bright and airy guest rooms each have a cosy seating area and feature tea/coffee facilities.
